Here’s my prediction: I’ve been following Aamir Khan’s work for quite some time, so I think it’s an easy prediction for me. This is a minor setback for Aamir Khan. He will do just fine.
Many Bollywood fans already have been saying that this is a major collapse for Aamir Khan. Distributors lost huge money and demanded compensation from Aamir Khan. Aamir Khan also agreed to help to some extent. The pessimistic talks like is still going on because his new movie Laal Singh Chaddha, an official adaption of Forrest Gump didn’t perform well at the box office.
However, that obviously doesn’t mean that movie isn’t nice.
Indians already don’t have a good taste in the movies. They have been awarding Shershah. It’s funny, how a movie with no artistic presentation and the performance disaster is loved so much. Well, let me not slam Shershah here. Sorry, if you love it. But, that movie has wasted my time and I hate that so much. I suffered through that movie, from start to end. A lot. And, no wonder why they end up hating good movies.
However, I haven’t watched Laal Singh Chaddha myself so I can’t back it yet. But, I’ve said it before that I am not a very huge fan of remakes. Either it is from DiCaprio or Aamir Khan.
Vikram Vedha, another remake is on the way. I can’t tell you how much I hate this trend. I wish it all luck, but I only admire the original ideas. I don’t plan to watch it at all. Maybe, I’ll rather watch the original movie.
Okay, let’s get back to Aamir Khan.
Mindblowing Filmography
Let me tell you why I think he has a great career in the movies. He has an amazing movie profile. He is probably the only actor in Bollywood with that amazing lineup of movies in the filmography. We all know the popular ones: Lagaan, 3 Idiots, Dangal, PK, Taare Zameen Par, Fanaa, Dil Chahta Hai, etc. It’s just a matter of time before he comes across some interesting projects in the future.
Strong preference for quality over quantity
Aamir Khan has said several times that he doesn’t want to do many movies. He rather prefers to work on a few, with really great scripts. No wonder why his choices have shattered the box office record so many times. He has set mind-blowing box office records on the box office since 2008 (Ghajini). Then we all know 2009, 3 Idiots. Then, Dhoom 3, PK, Dangal. All these have set an amazing box-office mark and taken the Indian movie industry to a greater height.
What went wrong?
Religious Dispute
Hindu extremists have gone a bit crazy slamming the Bollywood industry lately, and have been dismissive about so many artistic contributions to the movie industry. They have only been talking about how it has polluted the Indian culture and invited chaos in daily activities.
Obviously, they slam Bollywood because most of the actors are Muslims. Well, the most popular ones. Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan are popular names in the Bollywood industry.
I don’t think talents should have any religious or cultural boundaries. But, sadly, Laal Singh Chaddha became the victim of this mayhem.
Copied Movie
Other than surging religious disputes, there are so many other obvious reasons such as the movie being advertised by the haters as the copied movie, not officially adapted, but copied movie.
Forrest Gump makers announced so many times that it is an official adaptation, but, the rumors flew faster.
No wonder then why the opening day was such chaos.
Home Production
Aamir Khan has been a bit carried away with Advait Chandan, his intern. Advait’s first direction from Aamir Khan’s production house is, Secret Superstar. There was no reason to stick around for another project with Advait until he came up with something original, but he was a bit too much into Advait.
That’s what I have felt so far. If he had welcomed some other scripts from other directors and producers, this downturn of events could’ve been avoided.
What’s next?
For obvious reasons, he will wait some time until he reemerges from this mental trauma, as her ex-wife Kiran says. I didn’t know until a few weeks ago that Aamir and Kiran divorced already in 2021.
Well, lately, I’ve not been a huge Bollywood follower so, I guess that’s okay to skip that much of the news.
Anyway, the downside of being in show business is obviously having an unstable marital life. I guess that’s what happens to most couples. No wonder why Salman is so scared of marriage. 😉
